Tren Maya Launches Tourist Packages for Easter

In December 2024, due to high demand, the Maya Train began the commercialization of two trains with seven cars each, with a capacity of 426 people. The success of the tourist attraction was reflected in the sale of more than 11 thousand tickets just during the December season.

The General Director of the Maya Train, Óscar David Águila, announced the availability of tourist packages for the Easter holidays. During the morning press conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum, these programs were presented to promote tourism among Mexican families, offering the opportunity to visit Mérida, Tulum, Bacalar, and Chetumal.

The tourist packages presented include accommodation in hotels built by the Government and visits to archaeological sites. It is proposed that travelers depart from Mexico City via the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to reach destinations such as Tulum, Mérida, or Palenque, from where they can board the Maya Train and start their adventure in southwestern Mexico.

The Easter tourist packages include tours of the 34 stations, 29 archaeological sites, and 10 theme parks of the Maya Train. Additionally, the good reception of the opening of hotels such as Edzá, Chichén Itzá, Tulum Arpton, and Calakmul was highlighted in just over a month of operation.

During Easter, 10 tourist packages are offered to travel on the Maya Train for periods ranging from 4 days and 3 nights to 6 days and 5 nights, with costs ranging from 15,780 to 23,186 pesos. Those interested can obtain more information and purchase the packages through the various contact methods provided.

Regarding the performance of the Maya Train during its first year of operations, Óscar David Águila shared that approximately 790 thousand people were mobilized in more than a year. The stations with the highest demand were located in tourist destinations such as Cancun, Mérida, and Playa del Carmen. The project will continue to evolve under the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum, with the prospect of expanding its functionality to include cargo transportation in addition to passengers.
